We offer both composite and amalgam fillings, as well as crowns and bridges. Simple root canals can often be done in the office but depending on the tooth and the situation, a referral may be made to an endodontist.
Composite Fillings
Composite fillings, sometimes called “white” or “tooth colored” fillings, are a bonded resin filling that matches the color of your teeth. This type of filling can also be called “bonding” when used on front teeth to fill gaps or for other types of cosmetic dentistry.
Amalgam Fillings
Amalgam fillings, commonly called “silver” fillings, have been around for over a hundred years. They are an alloy composed of mercury, tin, copper, and silver. We continue to offer amalgam fillings to best accommodate our patients’ preferences and/or financial restrictions. Some insurances will only cover this type of filling, and we believe that all patients should have the option to make the most out of the dental coverage they have.
Crowns
Crowns are typically recommended for teeth with extremely large fillings and/or root canals, and serve to protect the remaining tooth structure from fracture. Crowning a tooth requires us to remove enamel from all sides and the top of the tooth to allow the entire tooth to be covered. For this reason, you will sometimes hear a crown referred to as a “cap.” Most of the crowns we do here are made from a porcelain-ceramic substrate, although we also do all-metal crowns in some cases.
